  1. Content

“God as an illusion” (eng. The God Delusion ; 2006) is a scientific and educational book by a British ethologist, popularizer of evolutionary biology, Richard Dawkins, an Oxford professor.

In the book, Dawkins claims that belief in a supernatural creator is a false belief that, like mania, does not change depending on the facts. He cites a statement by Robert Pirsig (eng. Robert Pirsig ) that “when one person is obsessed with illusions, it is called insanity. When many people are obsessed with illusions, they call this religion. ”

“God as an illusion” ranked second on the Amazon.com bestseller list in November 2006. From December 2006 to February 2007, she was among the top ten bestsellers among the scientific literature in a hardcover version of the New York Times.

The famous English evolutionist and popularizer of science Richard Dawkins, about whom Chemistry and Life wrote so much, is not only the author of the theory of memes and a passionate supporter of the Darwinian theory of evolution, but no less passionate atheist and materialist. Charles Darwin, in one of his letters, noticed half in jest that only the “Book of the Devil's Servant” could tell about the rough, blind and brutal creative activity of nature. A century and a half later, the challenge was accepted. A collection of his articles, first published in 2003, Dawkins called "Devil's Chaplain" ("A Devil's Chaplain. Selected Essays by Richard Dawkins", Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London, 2003). However, only some of the articles included in the book are devoted to evolutionary mechanisms. Another and perhaps most important theme for the author is the irreconcilable, uncompromising struggle for clarity of thinking.

Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins wonders if science can provide answers to serious questions that we used to trust in religion. What happens if we move on, leaving religion behind? What will guide and inspire us in a world where there are no gods? How can an atheist find meaning in his life? How can we put up with death without losing our thoughts about the afterlife? And what do we think is good, and what is bad?

This book is a grandiose story about how the God of Judaism, Christianity and Islam was born, grew up and became morally more perfect. Relying on the most authoritative research on archeology, theology, biblical studies, history of religions and evolutionary psychology, the author shows how the numerous bloodthirsty tribal gods of war become one god, jealous, arrogant and vindictive. Then this god is transformed into a God of compassion, loving and caring for all. You will learn why the gods appeared and how ideas about them developed; Why do we need shamans, priests, bishops and ayatollahs? how the god of the Jews defeated the other gods and became the only true god, whether he had a wife and a daughter; who invented Christianity, how ideas about Jesus changed, why Christianity survived; how to explain the triumph of Islam, what religion was Muhammad, how to understand the Quran; Does the future have a religious view of the world?
